Higher Ground

The Higher Ground Jazz Band is a community outreach group that seeks to uplift and inspire with swing, Latin, and jazz standards as well as modern big band arrangements.  The band is composed of 17 professional and amateur instrumentalists, along with vocalists. It is currently under the direction of Joel Joyner, whose international trumpet artistry has been heard with Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Dizzy Gillespie and many other musical stars. Higher Ground has played in many venues throughout the Hampton Roads area since 2006.  We hope you will join us at one of our performances to experience the joy and enthusiasm that we derive from sharing this music with the community.
